About Me
I first became interested in computers at quite a young age, when my father bought my first computer, a Vic20. This was one of the very old style systems that was just a thick keyboard that plugged into your television and loaded its data from cassette tapes. From there, I moved on to an Apple IIe, which for its time, was one of the best personal computers around. I did not start programming, however, until I entered high school.
Computer science class in high school was always my favorite course where we learned to operate Windows 3.1 and developed small programs in Turbo Pascal. While the programs we wrote in high school computer science were very simple in comparison to programs I would begin working on later, this course gave me an idea of what programming was all about.
When I was sixteen, I got my first job as a dishwasher at one of the local restaurants, where I became a cook. Over the next seven years, I worked as a line cook and buffet coordinator in a number of restaurants, including pubs, hotels, and fine dining establishments.
After so many years working it kitchens, I had reached a point were I could not longer continue to advance my career without going to cooking school and/or taking an apprenticeship. At the same time, I was learning to program HTML in my spare time and made the decision to pursue a career in computer programming.
Later that year, I began the Comuter Systems Technology program at Camosun College in Victoria BC. Camosun provided a excellent comprehensive program, touching on many different aspects of computer programming. Among all these options, I quickly determined that web programming was the direction I wanted to pursue. I tailored my course load to work toward this goal and spent a great deal of my own time learning as much as I could about web site development and design.
Today, after graduating from Camosun College and spending a number of years in the Information Technology industry, I have developed a strong skill set in web programming.
